Stay sexy in a distant universe
Das Edelweiss has always been one of a kind!
It all started in 1856
Anna and Christoph Wolf were the owners at that time and the hotel was called Gasthof Zürsch.
In 1876 Anton Strolz from Omesberg acquired the small property, which back then was equipped with a living room, a bedroom, a kitchen and a storage area made out of leaf sacks that served as mattresses.
In 1908 his son Engelbert Strolz, born in 1874, shoemaker and mountain guide, took over the father’s inn with his wife Angelika Schneider, daughter of the mayor at the time, and renamed it Hotel Edelweiss.
After the First World War, the rush of guests was high, the number of beds was doubled and Othmar, who had traveled and worked abroad, soon created the everlasting international flair that can still be felt today. Inspired by the London nightlife, the Edelweiss bar was th efirst bar to open in Zürs in 1931.
During the Second World War, as tourism stagnated, the Strolz family tried everything to attract new guests such as British and French ski lovers. They sent their son Richard personally to Paris and London to distribute flyers.
The hotel recovered by 1956, when the south wing of the building burned to the ground. The following summer, hard work paid off as the hotel was able to reopen just in time for the winter season.
In 1958 Richard Strolz built the Flexenhäusl, at the highest point of the Flexenpass. The hut is still a popular today and is most known for party fondue evenings.
In 1977 the “Zürserl” disco replaced the traditional 5 o’clock tea in the old dance café. The Zürserl became known beyond borders and guests from all over the world came to enjoy this party hotspot.
There was always something new to marvel at at the Edelweiss
Unconventional interior, a colorful mix of styles and opulent decorations. Extraordinary Toile de Jouy creations, illusionistic trompe-l’oeil paintings, attention to detail.
After years of management in the 4th generation by the brothers Mani and Seppi Strolz, they took their well-deserved retirement in 2019 and sold the hotel to Mag.Reinhard Wolf, Wolf Projektmanagement GmbH from Lech. Operational management is in the hands of Irmgard and Karl Wiener, who, as hosts, direct the fate of the legendary Hotel Edelweiss and in the interests of the new owner, continue traditions and stay on the trail of trends.
In 2021, the hotel is to be expanded by around 30 rooms, a spacious wellness area and an underground car park. But one thing is certain – the style of the hotel will be retained. Colorful and cosmopolitan, like its guests.
